Razer Mantis Speed Pad
Price: £17
The Razer Mantis Speed Pad is almost the exact opposite of the Giganta Lazer 4 pad. The mat is a massive cloth surface, rather than a small hard one, although both are designed for optimum gaming. The massive size of the mat is designed for gamers who like their sensitivity way down low, and so need oodles of room to slide their mouse across the desk.
The mat itself is made from foam and topped with cloth. It's definitely the nicest example of a cloth pad we've used, compared to the
Everglide Titan we reviewed previously. The surface is far smoother and more comfortable, and the mat has just the right amount of 'cushyness' to the foam.
We found that it worked fine with all of our laser mice, which was no surprise. The mat effectively lowers your DPI because of the surface texture - whereas the Giganta allows you to spin with a flick of the wrist (thanks to the surface detail and the speed of the hard surface) the cloth will slow you right down, allowing you pinpoint accuracy when sniping.
Which you prefer out of the two will ultimately depend on your mousing preference for fast or slow. At around £17, it's not a cheap bit of foam, but if you're into the cloth stuff, we haven't seen a better example than this.
